Supernatural Watercolor Illustration

About

Erin LaCerra

Painting the natural and supernatural.

I grew up amidst the gentle woods of Pennsylvania and now reside near the misty forests of Portland, Oregon. I am a fully self-employed artist working in the realm of folk surrealism. I use watercolor to paint the natural and the supernatural.

My subject matter is motivated by things I see in my dreams and journey meditations, as well as the raw beauty of the natural world. I am captivated by moments of transition; such as, sunrise, sunset and twilight.

The special conditions of light and atmosphere at these times form the backdrop for the majority of my paintings. These are also the occasions for which the veil between worlds is most thin and spiritual connection is most accessible. I have an interest in ancestral lineage, life, death and other lives. I am fascinated by birds, branches and the beyond; and reference all of these themes in my compositions.

Enduring a life altering injury in 2022 that permanently impaired my hearing, I confronted severe depression and thoughts of ending my life. Journeying to the deepest depths of the lower world, I made the decision to continue painting. As a result, my work underwent a significant shift to more fully represent the coexistence of life and death, as well as the presence of the light and the dark, in all things.

I make my work accessible to curators and collectors through a variety of offerings, including original paintings, art prints, apparel and stationery. My creations can be found on my website, at select retail stores, at limited in-person events, and via Faire Wholesale. For inquiries or to schedule a studio visit, please contact me.
